Philadelphia's Daily Newspapers Show Off Their New, Smaller Operation
By Mark Abrams
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The owners of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News held an open house today in their new headquarters, on the third floor of the former Strawbridge's department store at 8th and Market Streets in center city.
George Norcross and Lew Katz -- managing partners of Interstate Media, the parent company of Philadelphia Media Network, which owns the papers -- joined publisher Bob Hall and other staffers in welcoming invited guests to the papers' new headquarters.
Norcross proudly declared that the spacious, one-floor workspace for both newspapers and the joint web site represents a strong commitment to the future of the operation.
"We've decided that this is an important enterprise to be part of, to invest in, and to, frankly, spend a lot of individual time working hard to make successful," Norcross said.
Hall says the new owners are committed to a product in print.
"Everything is changing so fast, but we believe right now that print has a valuable role in our community for both of our newspapers."
The newspapers and web site moved to their new center city headquarters from 400 North Broad Street, a landmark white skyscraper which had been home to the Inquirer since 1925.
