Philadelphians Urged To Tour City's African-American Murals
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A tour of 47 murals that tell the African-American experience in Philadelphia has been launched and will be under way this weekend.
Ahmir "?uestlove" (pronounced "quest love") Thompson of the hip-hop music group The Roots is the narrator for the audio tour of the 'Albert M. Greenfield African-American Iconic Images Collection.'
"We know these murals, but we haven't thought about them in a while," says Romona Riscoe Benson, president of the African American Museum in Philadelphia. "So to bring them under this collection is just phenomenal."
The tours -- either guided or self-guided via cell phone -- and an interactive website will tell the histories of the murals.
Grover Washington III says that now his father's mural, on North Broad Street, will speak.
"What a lot of people don't know is the humanitarian that he was and the educator that he was," the younger Washington said.
