Philadelphians Head to DC to Lobby for Jobs Fund
Workers and employers who've benefitted from federal stimulus money boarded a bus in Philadelphia for Washington today to lobby Congress to extend an emergency fund that helps create jobs.
KYW's Paul Kurtz reports the fund is set to expire at the end of this month.
Tim Wisniewski runs a small business in Frankford that's just beginning to take off, thanks to a program called "Way To Work, PA".
"We have now 8 Way to Work employees. We currently have a safety ambassador program, the employees of which are Way to Work employees. It's a program that we've wanted for a while and we've been able to bring it about because of Way to Work, because it provides that wage subsidy. Unfortunately, Way to Work is due to expire at the end of the month, unless Congress renews it."
The Philadelphia Unemployment Project estimates 10,000 jobs statewide are on the block.
