Philadelphian Hospitalized In Connection To Contaminated Ground Turkey
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Pennsylvania Health Department says a child from Philadelphia was hospitalized in mid-June with salmonella as part of the national recall of contaminated ground turkey. The child has fully recovered.
That makes five cases total for the Keystone state. The others are from Allegheny County.
Health department officials say the victims, three men and two women, range in age from two to 43. There's no word on their conditions. More than 76 people nationwide have been sickened, and one person from California died.
Officials say turkey from Cargill's plant in Arkansas is to blame for the salmonella. Cargill provides meat for several brands including Shady Brook Farms, Safeway and Kroeger.
