Philadelphia Woman Gives Birth On Amtrak Train
ABERDEEN, Md. (CBS/AP) — An Amtrak train traveling to New York made an unscheduled stop in Aberdeen, Maryland so that a pregnant Philadelphia woman could give birth.
The Aberdeen Police Department said in a news release that Amtrak passenger Sheera Lowe boarded the train in Kannapolis, North Carolina and began experiencing contractions on Saturday evening just after the train left Penn Station, in Baltimore.
Officers Robert Gibbons and Daniel Testerman met Lowe at the Bel Air station, where they, along with Aberdeen Fire Department Paramedic Keith Williams and EMT Judy Hinchmet, helped deliver the baby, Trinity Christina Stokes.
Sgt. William Reiber says the baby weighed a healthy 8 pounds, 5 ounces.
Lowe says the child's middle name, "Christina," is the same as a passenger who provided comfort to her throughout her labor.
