Welcome to the weekend everyone! First and foremost, it is going to be a dry one with no rain or snow expected. We will take baby steps from the 30s yesterday to near 40 degrees today. It won't be much, but it is still a small warm up.

Still, we are well below average, with normal highs on today's date in the upper 40s.

Be sure to layer up with the winter clothes once again because wind chills will hover in the 30s.

Clouds will give way to sun Saturday and winds will be breezy at times from the west gusting to 20 mph. There will be mainly cloudy skies and scattered lake effect snow showers in the Poconos and Lehigh Valley.

Sunday, we really enjoy a nice warmup with highs in the low and mid 50s. That's about 15 degrees warmer than today and above average. There will be clouds to start your Sunday, but they also give way to some afternoon sun which will make it feel pleasant for any outdoor activities and all of you at the Eagles' home game against the Carolina Panthers.

It should be a balmy 54 with a light wind making it feel around 49 degrees for the 1 p.m. kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field.

That above-average warmth sticks around next week with highs nearing the 60s on Tuesday.

Snow isn't in the forecast next week with such mild days, but rain is likely both Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday is the cloudy but mainly dry day between the two storm systems.

We may need to watch Wednesday night for snow in the Poconos as cold air rushes in behind Wednesday's storm.

After Wednesday, cold, dry Canadian air moves in and our temperatures will once again plummet. Highs will only be in the mid to upper 30s on Thursday and Friday.

Winter's first official day is just a few weeks away on Dec. 21.

The winter solstice takes place in Philadelphia at 4:19 a.m. that day. It is the time each year when all places on the planet should receive equal hours of daylight and darkness.

After the 21st we will start to see more hours of daylight each day.
