Philadelphia Violence Claims 3 Lives, Injures Several
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities say it had been a violent night in Philadelphia even before the early morning shooting death of an off-duty police officer.
Late Friday night, a 47-year-old man was shot in the head in North Philadelphia and pronounced dead just before midnight at Einstein Medical Center.
Police said a man in his 20s was shot multiple times in a car in North Philadelphia shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday and pronounced dead minutes later by an emergency responder.
At about 3:40 a.m. Saturday in Southwest Philadelphia, a 23-year-old man was shot in the back and was pronounced dead minutes later at the scene.
A double stabbing shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday in North Philadelphia sent a 24-year-old man and a 48-year-old man to the University of Pennsylvania hospital in critical condition.
Minutes earlier, another man in his 20s was critically injured in a shooting in West Philadelphia takeout restaurant.
Shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a 24-year-old man was stabbed in the face on a city bus in Southwest Philadelphia. He was reported in stable condition.
