Philadelphia Teen Held For Trial In Shooting Of Toddler, 17-Year-Old
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - He's a 17-year-old cooperating witness in a murder case. He pleaded guilty to assault in that case, and while he was out on bail, authorities allege, he shot a victim during a robbery and wounded two people, including a one-year-old, during late afternoon barrage of gunfire in Kensington last month.
At a hearing today in this double-shooting case, two witnesses testified that their family was out on Orleans Street gunfire erupted -- anywhere from 15 to 30 shots from at least three shooters -- and the family was caught in the crossfire (see previous story).
"The one-year-old boy is doing okay now," says Philadelphia prosecutor Kate Corbett. "He still has follow-ups. He was shot through one shoulder and the bullet came out the other shoulder. The 17-year-old was shot in the head. He was in the hospital, then he was in rehab, and he's back in the hospital. He is going to have lifelong complications because of this."
Defendant Leon Mills is now in custody, facing trial on two charges of attempted murder.
