Philadelphia Teams Up With Local Organization To Provide Housing For Homeless Veterans

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The City of Philadelphia teamed up with the South Philadelphia social services group CATCH, Inc. to provide housing for homeless veterans.
"No one who has ever worn the uniform of the United States of America should ever find themselves homeless," said Mayor Michael Nutter, who was on hand to celebrate the opening of Patriot House.
Located in the 1200 Block of South 15th Street in the Point Breeze section of the city, the two buildings contain 13 one-bedroom apartments and two efficiencies that are handicap accessible. Nutter says the $3 million project not only helps veterans, but also puts 124 Philadelphians back to work.
"This development clearly demonstrates the positive impact that economic recovery dollars have had on strengthening neighborhoods, by creating construction jobs, eliminating blight and boosting the economy."
Professionals from CATCH will be on site to provide services for 15 chronically homeless veterans with mental health and substance abuse disorders. Patriot House is one of several housing developments in Point Breeze funded by Neighborhood Stabilization Program funds.
