Philadelphia Teacher Charged With Rape Of Elementary Student

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A former teacher and coach at the Timothy Academy Christian Elementary School, at Third and Lehigh in North Philadelphia, has been charged with sexually assaulting a female student for years, beginning when she was pre-teen.

Capt. John Darby of the police department's Special Victims Unit says 26-year-old Steven Fulton (right), of the 5000 Block of Osage Avenue, has been charged with rape and numerous other offenses for a series of sexual crimes that happened over a three-year period.

"They activity escalated over a period of time," says Darby.  "We have determined that incidents did occur within the school (and) in his private vehicle at various locations in the city including Hunting Park and other residential streets."

Darby says the girl recently confided to a female mentor at the school, police were notified, and within a day charges were filed.

Several sources say Fulton, who posted bail this afternoon and was released, has admitted having sex with the girl.  He has been fired by the school

Police say they are now trying to determine if there are any other victims.
