Philadelphia Taxpayer Center Extends Hours To Assist Local Families
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Internal Revenue Service will extend the hours of its Philadelphia Taxpayer Assistance Center in an effort to help local taxpayers who are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit.
The center, which is located on the 600 block of Arch Street, will be open on January 29 and February 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The extra days and hours are being added to the IRS walk-in office schedule to aid lower-income taxpayers who are unable to get assistance during the work week. A number of community partners will also open their doors to assist taxpayers who want to claim the EITC.
Low income families may be eligible to receive as much as $5,600 by simply filing a federal income tax form, according to the IRS. People who earned $48,362 or less from wages, self-employment or farming in 2010 should check to see if they qualify.
