Philadelphia Student In Fatal Chinatown Bus Crash Describes Moment Of Terror
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Temple University student from Queens, NY was among the more than three dozen people hurt in last night's fatal crash of a commuter bus along the New Jersey Turnpike that was heading from New York to Philadelphia (see previous story).
Ashley Wilson is a senior studying public relations at Temple University and was on her way back to her North Philadelphia apartment aboard a bus she says she has used dozens of times.
But Monday night's trip from New York's Chinatown to Philadelphia's Chinatown was anything but routine.
About 9 PM, investigators suspect a tire blew on the bus, forcing it to cross back and forth across southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike near Exit 9 in East Brunswick as the driver struggled to regain control.
"It felt like we were going to go upside down, and I ended up hitting my head on the seat railing in front of me," she told KYW Newsradio early Tuesday afternoon. "Things were flying everywhere, people were yelling and in a panic. I ended up on the floor with a whole bunch of stuff."
Twenty-year-old Troy Nguyen of Royersford, Montgomery County, died at a hospital.
A 50-year-old man from Philadelphia and a 70-year-old man from Lansdale, also remain hospitalized.
