Philadelphia Street Crews Dig In To Dig Out
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - City of Philadelphia crews will be out in full force throughout Wednesday evening and Thursday morning to clear the streets of Philadelphia.
Streets commissioner Clarena Tolson has dispatched 450 trucks -- some with plows and some with salt -- to clear the streets, an operation she says will continue well into Thursday.
"A full operation of 450 vehicles and 700 personnel will be salting and plowing all of our primary, secondary, and tertiary routes throughout the entire city," she said on Wednesday.
"Do not expect trash and recycling (collection) tomorrow -- instead, we'll be plowing and salting throughout the entire city," she added. "Please hold any requests for plowing and salting until we finish those operations, and then we can go back for additional service requests."
Cars must be moved from the city's snow emergency routes by 7 PM Wednesday or they will be towed. Thursday and Friday's trash and recycling collections will be delayed one day.
