Philadelphia Soul Open 2013 Season Saturday In Arizona

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Soul will kick-off their 2013 Arena Football League season on Saturday on the road, paying the Arizona Rattlers a visit.

The last time we saw Philadelphia was when they lost to Arizona in the 2012 Arena Bowl, 72-54,  back in August.

"We don't let them forget (that game)," Soul head coach Clint Dolezel tells KYW Newsradio. "We showed the highlights from the Arena Bowl - was supposed to be highlights, but it was pretty much a 17-minute highlight of Arizona getting interceptions on us, throwing touchdowns, running through us, getting special teams play.  So yeah, we're chomping at the bit to get to this weekend.  But we're getting our work in and we've got a bunch of veterans that know it's one game.  We want to win it, but it's not going to make or break our season."

Clint Dolezel Interview

This is Dolezel's first season as the Soul's head coach, but he was with the team last year, serving as former head coach Doug Plank's associate head coach and offensive coordinator.   Dolezel likes what he sees as the team gets ready to start the 2013 season.

"Things look good," Dolezel says.  "We had two weeks of camp.  Being here last year, I feel like we came out ahead of where we were last year.  It always help when you've got some veterans coming back with your nucleus - we've got twelve guys returning.  It's a good mix of new guys and older guys.  Looking forward to going to Arizona."

Philadelphia went 15-3 during the 2012 regular season.

The Soul and the Rattlers will kick-off at 8:00pm on Saturday night.
