Philadelphia Residents Combine Neighborhoods, Come Up With 'Port Fishington'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Are several sections of Philadelphia merging into one?
The cross over sections geographically of Port Richmond, Fishtown and Kensington are what some of the locals call "Port Fishington." Add Northern Liberties into the mix and its North Port Fishington.
"It's interesting some of the older residents don't like it. They tend to be more definitive about the neighborhoods." says Mike Landers who owns a vegan baking company called North Port Fishington Cookie Factory.
"Just trying to explain to people where I was, it just made more sense to mash them together."
Realtor Bob Murphy says for years agents have been selling properties is less desirable neighborhoods by using a nearby area as a reference point, and he says a snappy name like Port Fishington can only help to gentrify areas in need.
"Saying Northern Liberties area or Fishtown area, its helped neighborhoods spill out and people to come in and rebuild houses that have been falling apart. It may end up being the most desirable."
