Philadelphia Police Say Security Will Be Tight For 4th Of July

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you're planning to celebrate the Fourth of July in Philadelphia, while you're watching the fireworks and festivities, one of the most comprehensive security operations ever assembled will be watching over you.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says while there are no specific threats, there will be heightened security for the July 4th Celebration.

Ramsey says there will be a large presence of uniformed police and undercover officers in the crowds. Even vendors will be getting special screenings. A special command post for local and federal agencies, along with special video surveillance posts will also be activated.

The commissioner explains that on the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, symbolic gatherings nationwide are getting extra attention.

"Everything this year is the 10th Anniversary year of 9/11, so obviously, there's heightened awareness."
