Philadelphia Police Officer Shot in Kensington
A Philadelphia police officer was listed in stable condition and recovering at Temple University Hospital after being shot in the leg on Thursday night.
KYW's Margie Smith reports that one suspect is in custody, and there was a manhunt underway for one or two others.
Officer Kevin Livewell, 30, was on patrol with his partner in the 3000 block of Water Street when they spotted a van they believed was involved in a shooting earlier in the day.
According to police, when they tried to pull the van over, two or three suspects jumped out and opened fire with assault type rifles. Both officers returned fire, but only Officer Livewell was injured.
Mayor Michael Nutter says he's lucky to be alive:
"It's incredible what goes on in the streets of our city and the dangers that our officers face on a daily basis."
Officer Livewell is a nine-year veteran of the force, a husband, and a father of two.
