Philadelphia Police Officer Arrested On Sexual Assault Charges From August Incident, Authorities Say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia police officer has been arrested and charged with sex crimes, officials say. Authorities identified the officer as 28-year-old Novice Sloan, with the 17th District, on Saturday night. Sloan was arrested Friday for an incident that took place on Aug. 8.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office has filed sexual assault charges against Sloan.

Prosecutors and police released few details about the incident but confirmed the victim was a woman. Officials believe there could be more victims.

Sloan has been charged with sexual assault, indecent assault and simple assault. He was arrested Friday and arraigned at the Criminal Justice Center Saturday.

Temple police confirmed that Sloan is a former employee at the department.

Sloan can be seen in a tweet from the Temple P.D. in 2017 receiving an award for saving a family from a burning home.

"These are incredibly serious charges against a person entrusted to protect the public and as with all sexual assault cases, my office will investigate this matter deliberately and thoroughly," Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said in a statement.
