Philadelphia (CBS) – Authorities say a Philadelphia Police officer is in critical but stable condition this morning after a woman driving a Ford Focus, struck the officer at this construction site near Jefferson Hospital.
The driver gave her license and registration but when asked to step out, police say she sped off, hitting Officer Kim Klepowski.
Jefferson medical staffers quickly rushed out to help Officer Klepowski. She recieved 32 stitches in various areas of her body including her head, leg and shoulder. She was originally listed in critical but stable condition and has been upgraded to stable now.
As for the driver, police still had her license and registration. Police in New Jersey found the car parked in front of her Audubon home and say she came out intoxicated.
Authorities say she'll be charged in New Jersey with DUI and Philadelphia police are putting together a warrant for aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
Officer Klepowski is the wife of Dave Smith, a detective who works at Philadelphia's Central detective office.
