Philadelphia Police Searching For Suspect Who Groped 10-Year-Old Girl
By Todd Quinones
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A 10-year-old girl was walking with her two-year-old brother to their dad's house when police say a stranger approached the girl and groped her right on the street Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators were out on the 3400 block of Lee Street near Porter canvassing the neighborhood. They're hoping surveillance cameras in the area will help lead them to identify and catch the suspect.
According to the girl's mother, the suspect was parked on Porter Street and when her daughter walked passed him, he got out of his car, approached her, put his hand over her mouth and then groped her.
The 10-year-old yelled and fought back. The boy also began to scream. Seconds later the suspect returned to his car and drove away.
Neighbors can't believe something like this would happen on their block in broad daylight.
"That's some sick person that does that. Especially when I got a daughter and a son that age," neighbor Kathy McDowell said.
"That's hard to believe isn't it? I don't know. I've never seen nothing like that," neighbor Harry McDowell said.
The girl's parents say she is shaken up from all of this but fortunately was not injured.
They want other parents in the area to be aware of what happened so they can protect their children.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man about 6'2". He has a mustache and a thin build. He was last seen driving a white four-door sedan.
