Philadelphia Police Investigate Three Separate Shootings

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It was a violent night in Philadelphia as police are investigating three unrelated shootings.
Authorities say a 24-year-old waitress was on her way home from work at about midnight when she was shot near South 13th Street and Catherine Street in South Philadelphia. Police initially thought it was an attempted robbery, but detectives now say the victim appears to have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. She was shot in the back, but apparently was not the intended target.
She is talking to police and listed in stable condition at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. So far, there have been no arrests and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
There are no suspects in a fatal Port Richmond shooting that happened about an hour later. One man was killed, another hospitalized.
It happened in the 2000 block of Castor Avenue. Investigators say two gunmen attempted to rob two other men, both 24-years-old, of cigarettes and money.
When the men resisted and ran towards a nearby home, the gunmen opened fire. One man was shot in the thigh and pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital. The second victim, also shot in the leg, is in stable condition. Sources say the dead victim was well-known in the neighborhood as a community activist, but police have not yet released the victim's name.
Shots rang out in Hunting Park around 11 p.m. Wednesday, leaving a 22-year-old man hospitalized.
The incident happened in the 700-block of Allegheny Avenue. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and is listed in stable condition at Temple University Hospital. The motive appears to have been robbery, but police have no suspects.
The gunman fled and remains at large.
