Philadelphia Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in the city's Frankford section Monday afternoon.
Police say 23-year old Josh Taylor was shot in the chest in the 4600 block of Worth Street in the Frankford section of the city. But the police statement as to when, where or why Taylor was shot does not match up to what neighbors are saying.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says the officer was in the neighborhood to help a friend move.
Ramsey says the officer, who was off-duty at the time, observed a man who came out of the house with a gun in his hand. Ramsey said the officer confronted him as to why he had a gun. The man then allegedly turned on the officer, when the officer fired his weapon.
Annette Washington lives in the area and says the off-duty officer never identified himself as a cop, walked into the Taylor's home and shot him.
"Whatever happened with the police officer, I don't think it should have happened that way," said Washington.
Police say Taylor was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Police are still investigating the shooting and have not released the name of the off-duty officer.
