Philadelphia Police Release Surveillance Photo In Fatal Robbery
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police have released a picture of the second suspect who got away following a fatal robbery inside a Lawndale jewelry store Thursday.
The jewelry store owner, a pillar of the community, was killed during a shootout with the suspects.
Deputy Police Commissioner William Blackburn says 22-year-old Kevin Turner (right), who has over a dozen previous arrests for drugs, robbery and guns, escaped from a Northeast Philadelphia prison last week and investigators now believe he and his accomplice committed another armed robbery at Philadelphia Diamond Discounters on Cottman Avenue on October 18.
"The description of the two males match," said Blackburn. "There was also a black backpack that was seen at the first robbery that was also seen in the possession of the second suspect at the other robbery. During this robbery, I believe there were $2,400 taken, as well as various jewelry."
And three days later, authorities say, they struck again with tragic results. William Glatz, owner of Glatz Jewelers, was fatally shot during a failed robbery inside his business on Rising Sun Avenue. Turner was shot and killed during a shootout with Glatz. The second suspect remains on the loose (see previous story).
Turner escaped from the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in the Northeast in the early morning hours of October 12.
