Philadelphia Police Department Sending 67 Officers To Chicago For NATO Summit
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Philadelphia Police Department is sending 67 officers to assist with the NATO summit in Chicago.
The summit is being held Sunday and Monday and is expected to draw protesters. The Chicago Police Department says it's getting out-of-state help from departments in Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Charlotte-Mecklenburg, N.C.
A Philadelphia police spokeswoman says the department is sending 67 officers to help out. Officer Tanya Little says those officers will be helping out in Chicago from Friday through Tuesday.
Philadelphia police Commissioner Charles Ramsey started his career in the Chicago police department and has deep personal roots in the area. Last year, he had been in talks with then Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel about possibly taking the top police job in Chicago. But ultimately Ramsey decided to stay in Philadelphia.
