Philadelphia Police Charge Suspect In Deadly Nicetown Bar Shooting
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police have charged an Olney man with murder and attempted murder in connection with a deadly shooting at a Nicetown bar early Sunday morning.
Police received multiple tips after they released video of the crime Monday afternoon. Even in a weekend when there were 32 shootings in Philadelphia, the shooting at the Genesis bar was shocking.
Police say the suspect, identified as Wayne James, was drinking inside the bar and lit up a cigarette. They say a bouncer ejected him when he refused requests to put it out.
Video outside the bar shows him leave and return minutes later, fire randomly through the bar's door for six seconds and then running away. The shooting killed one man and left five other people wounded.
Captain James Clark says callers who saw the video gave police both a name and an address.
"As a result of those tips, the homicide unit, along with members of the U.S. Marshalls service, went to the 1100 block of Wagner Avenue looking for a Wayne James."
Clark says police took James into custody without incident and also seized two vehicles and other evidence.
