Philadelphia Philanthropist Ruth Perelman Dies At Age 90
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A well-known Philadelphia philanthropist died on Sunday.
Ruth Perelman, 90, of Rittenhouse Square and her husband Raymond Perelman have contributed millions of dollars to various Philadelphia institutions including the Kimmel Center, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Perelman Jewish Day School.
"Ruth and Raymond Perelman are giants within our community, in our Jewish community and in the general civic community," Michael Rosenzweig, president and CEO of the National Museum of American Jewish History, said. "Their contributions have been enormous, to our arts and cultural community, to our museum to the medical community obviously in light of their recent magnificent gift to the University of Pennsylvania."
In May, the couple acquired naming rights to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine after making a $225 million donation.
Perelman died of pneumonia at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Funeral services are pending.
