Philadelphia Philanthropist Kal Rudman Gives More For Cop Scholarships

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More Philadelphia police officers will be able to obtain higher education, thanks to the latest scholarship grant from the Kal and Lucille Rudman Foundation.
The foundation's new gift brings its total in 11 years to nearly $160,000.
Kal Rudman says it's a way of making good officers better, "so that the general public of Philadelphia learns what they ordinarily don't know, the good things police do in their unlimited service."
Officer Magdalen Clarke took a sociology class at Community College of Philadelphia, thanks to a Rudman scholarship, and says it helps her better understand the city's diverse populations.
"I'm now able to sit back and look at the community and the United States as a whole as outsiders do, allowing me to better understand how people in other communities view us," she said.
Clarke was one of 22 officers who took summer classes. She got an A.
