Philadelphia Pastry Shop Serves Up A Special July 4th Treat

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Philadelphia pastry shop institution baked a free red, white and blue 'Happy Birthday America' cake, and served it up, along with plenty of cupcakes at the Independence Visitor Center.
Termini Brothers Bakery has been handed down from father to son for three generations, and is now in the hands of Vince Termini Jr.
"We thought it was a good opportunity to represent what this country gave my grandfather, the founder of Termini Brothers, an opportunity almost a century ago," he said.
Locals and visitors lined up for their free slice of cake, and there was plenty to go around.
"We made about 2,500 cupcakes and we have a five-tier cake, which should serve 700-800 people," Termini Jr. said.
He adds that there are lots of varieties to choose from.
"All of the cupcakes are vanilla buttercreme and we have an assortment throughout the five-tier wedding cake of raspberry pound, chocolate chip, chocolate cake, pound cake and vanilla layer."
Betsy Ross was there to make the first cut into the cake.
