PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia Orchestra will leave the States at the end of May for a Residency Program in the People's Republic of China.
The Orchestra will leave May 28th for a tour of China which will include seven concerts and other "people to people" events. Craig Hamilton is vice president of Global Initiatives and Government Relations with the Orchestra:
"Over the last few years, in anticipation of our 40th anniversary tour, we have been building a residency program that is designed to not only have our Fabulous Philadelphians perform on stage throughout China, but also have them engage in the communities in which they are performing."
Hamilton says the orchestra's history with China actually dates back to 1973. But now the organization is looking toward the future and an annual residency which will include master classes, lectures, coaching sessions and musical workshops.
