Philadelphia Orchestra Prepares For Trip To China, 40th Anniversary Tour

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia Orchestra is going to China next week and some members of the participated in a sendoff ceremony.
The Orchestra has been to China seven times since the historic first visit in 1973.
Allison Vulgamore, the President and CEO of the Orchestra, says the two week China residency and 40th anniversary tour will be busy.
"We will focus on high level people to people exchanges including rehearsals and performances with student and professional musicians. [There will also be] special lectures by Ambassador Nicholas Platt who is our greatest advocate in China since 1973," she explains.
Vulgamore says among the events will be pop up concerts in Tianjin, Philadelphia's sister city.
