Philadelphia Orchestra Announces 2 Free Concerts During October
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Even though the Philadelphia Orchestra is facing economic woes (see related story), it wants to show its commitment to Philadelphia with the announcement of some free neighborhood concerts next month.
"It's always been our hope that every Philadelphian hears the Philadelphia Orchestra," said Allison Vulgamore (at lectern in photo), president and CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra at today's announcement at the former Philadelphia Navy Yard in South Philadelphia, where the first free concert will be held.
"Even in these tough and challenging economic times -- and certainly the orchestra has been hit in many ways by this tough economy -- they still want to bring the music to the people," added Mayor Michael Nutter (behind Vulgamore in photo).
The public is invited to attend the first of two free orchestra performances on Tuesday evening, October 4th, at 6pm, at Urban Outfitters' headquarters at the Navy Yard complex in South Philadelphia.
The second free concert will be October 9th at 630pm on the River Stage at Penn's Landing.
