Clear but windy for Mummers Parade in Philadelphia; 2025 kicks off with colder temps
After storms overnight, some parts of our region got off to a foggy start that is now clearing up. The main story for those of you at Philadelphia's Mummers Parade will be the wind! Gusts could be as high as 45 to 50 mph+ all day long, with temps in the mid-40s.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for our entire region Wednesday due to these winds. For most of us, the alert takes effect at 10 a.m. and will continue to 10 p.m. If you have unsecured objects in your yard or on the lawn, tie them down or bring them inside. There's also a slight risk of tree limbs and power outages with these blustery conditions.
The alert starts and ends slightly later along the Jersey Shore, from 12 p.m. to midnight.
Layer up if you will be out on the first day of 2025. As the overall system moves east, cooler and drier air will rush into the region through the second half of next week. High temperatures by Thursday afternoon will struggle to climb out of the 30s, and by the weekend we'll struggle to get above freezing! When you add the winds to the equation, we'll be back in the 20s.
As of now, the Eagles game is looking dry but CONSIDERABLY colder than this past Sunday.
The NEXT Weather Team is monitoring the longer-range forecast and sees signs of a huge overall pattern change over the next few weeks, including a chance for more snow next Monday. We'll keep you posted!
