UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) — A Philadelphia narcotics officer faces a hearing later this month after being charged with driving under the influence.
Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood says the incident happened Sunday, September 15th, after an Eagles game.
Chitwood says 42-year-old narcotics officer Levaun Rudisill was heading home when he was involved in a serious accident.
"Rudisill went across the yellow lines and head-on into another vehicle, causing significant damage to the vehicle. Rudisill was operating a Dodge Ram pick-up truck. As a result of the accident, the operator of the other vehicle was taken to Delaware County Memorial Hospital," Chitwood says.
That other driver, age 18, was treated for minor injuries and released. Rudisill was given a field sobriety test by the officer at the scene and, according to Chitwood, he failed. Rudisill refused a blood test.
Now, Rudisill faces a preliminary hearing on October 30th in Upper Darby. He has been assigned to desk duty while the charges are pending in court.
