Philadelphia Named 'Top U.S. Destination' By Leading Guidebook Publisher
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia has been ranked among the top cities for things like beer and parks (never mind air toxicity and unattractiveness!). Now, the City of Brotherly Love can add something else to its list of accolades.
Lonely Planet, the leading publisher of over 100 million guidebooks on worldwide destinations, has named Philadelphia one of the country's must-see travel destinations for next year on its annual list of the "Top 10 U.S. Destinations for 2013."
Philadelphia ranked fourth of 10 and was cited for its vibrant art scene, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Barnes Foundation. The city's trendy gallery scene and First Friday events were also mentioned.
Louisville, Kentucky came in first, followed by Fairbanks, Alaska at number two. Other places that made Lonely Planet's list include Twin Cities, Minnesota; Glacier National Park, Montana; and San Juan Islands, Washington.
