Philadelphia Named Most Vegetarian-Friendly City for Sports Fans
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Although Philadelphia is known as the home of the cheesesteak, PETA is honoring the city with its first-ever Most Vegetarian-Friendly City for Sports Fans Award.
The announcement was made the same day the Eagles received top honors on PETA's list of the Top Five Vegetarian-Friendly NFL Stadiums.
This is Lincoln Financial Field's fourth consecutive year in first place.
"At Lincoln Financial Field, the very finest meat-free options in the NFL are as close as the nearest concession stand," says PETA Associate Director Ryan Huling. "Any discerning Eagles fan knows that the vegan and vegetarian food at the Linc is in a league of its own."
Vegetarian and vegan options at the Linc's concession stands include the vegan steak sandwich and Yves veggie dogs. Vegetarian options that can be made vegan (by asking for no cheese) include the Planet Hoagie vegetarian hoagie, the veggie chicken steak sandwich, the veggie wrap, and the veggie tacos from Jose Garces' Distrito Taco Truck, which can be made with poblano rajas, roasted red peppers, cremini and portobello mushrooms. Fans in the suites can order rotini pasta salad and roasted garlic hummus and pita chips.

Receiving honorable mentions are the homes of the Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, and Arizona Cardinals.
Because the Phillies' Citizens Bank Park was number one in their ranking of vegetarian-friendly major league ballparks and the 76ers' Wells Fargo Center was number three in their NBA survey (See Related Story), PETA says the City of Brotherly Love will receive its first-ever Most Vegetarian-Friendly City for Sports Fans Award.
"From the vegan steak sandwiches and hot dogs at Lincoln Financial Field to the faux 'pit beef' at Citizens Bank Park and the two kinds of veggie burgers at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia has set an excellent example for other sports-loving cities to follow," said a PETA spokesperson in a statement.
