Philadelphia Museum Of Art


The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the biggest museums in the country…and one of the most beautiful! Founded over 125 years ago, the PMA houses over 225,000 pieces of art and offers tons of exhibitions for your viewing pleasure.

The museum itself is divided into four areas, with different hours and admission prices for each:

The Main Building
26th St & Ben Franklin Pkwy
Philadelphia, Pa. 19130
Tues – Sun, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (select galleries open until 8:45 p.m. on Fri)
Adults $16, Students (with ID) $12, Seniors (65+) $14, Kids (13-18) $12, Kids (12 and under) FREE Members are FREE
*First Sundays of the month are pay-what-you-want

The main building is home to 200 galleries, including the American collection (featuring everything from Revolutionary-era furniture to paintings), Renaissance paintings, global architectural settings and rooms that encompass entire historical periods. There are entire galleries dedicated to artistic styles ranging from French Impressionism to contemporary.

Ruth & Raymond G. Perelman Building

The Perelman Building is located across the street from the Main Building and was recently renovated and expanded. It houses a range of exhibits, some of which have never been seen before.

Rodin Museum
22nd St & Ben Franklin Pkwy

Tues – Sun, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
$5 contribution per person is suggested

Though located a few blocks away, the Rodin Museum is technically still part of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The venue houses the largest collection of works (outside of Paris) by the French sculptor Auguste Rodin. It also has a beautiful outdoor garden.

*Note: The Rodin Museum will be closed starting Sept. 5th. It will re-open in the summer of 2012.

Tues – Sun, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Adults $5, Seniors $3, Children (6-12) $2, FREE for PMA members and kids under 6

There are two historic houses administered by the museum, both located in Fairmount Park:

Cedar Grove embodies a mix of Baroque, Rococo and Federal styles. The house was passed down through generations of the Morris family and moved from Frankford Ave to Fairmount Park in the late 1920s.

Mount Pleasant was built by a Scottish ship captain in the 1760s and is considered one of the best examples of architecture from the period. The house includes many original items and was recently renovated.
