Mural Arts Program Launches Project Highlighting Immigration In South Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program has launched a non-mural project that tells the stories of immigration in South Philadelphia.
Journeys South uses decorated awnings, footprint journeys with movement video, poetic broadsides and a life-sized zoetrope to tell different stories of immigration in South Philadelphia.
Footprints on the sidewalk outside A Man's Image at 1701 East Passyunk Avenue tell the story of Cefu Rome, who left North Philadelphia a battered child to become a top Kung Fu master in South Philadelphia.
"It's a blessing, baby, it's a blessing because it means that the work I've been doing has paid off."
The installations are up through June 11th and are spread throughout South Philadelphia. For more information, go to www.muralarts.org.
