Philadelphia Man Who Ran Boston Marathon Says He'll Be In It Next Year
By David Madden
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Many Delaware Valley residents who were in Boston for the marathon and witnessed yesterday's horrific blasts are still coming to terms with it all.
Kevin Durkin (at left center in photo, wearing yellow shirt) works as a Philadelphia rep for an Atlanta-based running shoe company and finished the race. He says he had returned to his hotel room about a block away when all hell broke loose. Hearing both blasts, he and a few friends proceeded to the lobby.
"I had driven, and my first thought was that (my car) was in the parking garage. I was, like, let's just get out of here."
Driving through the area gave him a clearer idea of just how lucky he and his friends had been.
Durkin drove straight home and got to sleep, though he's not sure how. But he says he can still hear those explosions in his head.
And he promises to return to Boston next Patriots Day and run in the marathon again.
