Philadelphia Man Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison For Identity Theft Ring
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Philadelphia man, convicted last June of running an identity theft ring involving 24 other people, was sentenced Monday to more than 15 years in prison.
Miguel Bell, 36, attempted to steal more than $2 million from his victims' bank accounts between 2005 and 2009. He used tellers at the victims' banks to obtain personal information including account numbers.
K.T. Newton, Assistant U.S. Attorney, prosecuted the case and said Bell had a unique way of obtaining information.
"Actually two bank employees and one insurance company employee were romanced by Miguel Bell. After he romanced them he then asked them, at separate times, if they would provide customer information.
Ten bank employees, a car dealership employee, eight check runners and several recruiters were also charged in the scheme and all pleaded guilty.
