PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A northeast Philadelphia man is raising money to put a plaque on the grave of a baseball player from the 20's and 30's.
Paul "Country Jake" Stephens is buried in York, Pennsylvania with a simple marker identifying the site. Baseball fan, Ira Wolins says Stephens deserves to have a plaque at his final resting place, detailing the mark he made on baseball's Negro League.
"The 4 teams that he played [on], the years that he played Negro league ball, 17 years, the fact that he was [a] good bunter, a great base runner, wasn't a good hitter but was a great defensive player," Wolins explained.
Wolins will be selling silver and blue wristbands featuring the ballplayer's name at the Camden Riversharks' game on September 8th.
He needs to raise 4800 to pay for the marker.
