Philadelphia Kids Make Stained Glass To Brighten Lives
Philadelphia (AP) – There's a special after-school program in Philadelphia where high school kids create beautiful works of art to brighten the lives of those who are less fortunate.
The Stained Glass Project meets every week at First United Methodist Church of Germantown. About a dozen students from Germantown High School next door participate in the program.
Some of the kids recently traveled to New Orleans with 12 stained glass windows they made for a school being rebuilt after it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Before that, 18 of their windows went to a school in rural South Africa for children orphaned by AIDS.
Stained Glass Project co-founder Paula Mandel says many of her students don't have much, but they love creating beautiful things and then giving them away.
