Jury Imposes Death Penalty In Car Wash 'Execution'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia jury sentenced a man to die by lethal injection for the execution murder of a 19-year-old man in 2008.
A jury of nine women and three men sentenced Omar Cash Friday to die for the murder of Muliek Brown.
It took less than two hours for the jurors to reach the unanimous decision that Cash be executed by lethal injection.
The jury convicted Cash in just 30 minutes last week after considering the evidence, including surveillance video of the crime.
The video shows Cash walk up to Brown, put a gun to the back of his head and fire. Brown was down on his hands and knees shining the tires on his car at a car wash when he was executed. The deadly shooting happened on April 21st, 2008 in the Frankford section.
"This was a horrible and senseless crime," said District Attorney Seth Williams. "Mr. Brown was a hardworking father whose death is a loss for the entire city of Philadelphia … This death penalty verdict holds Omar Cash accountable for his unthinkable actions. My thoughts and prayers are with Muliek Brown's family and friends, and I hope this will give them some sense of justice."
Prosecutor Peter Lim says, "This homicide happened on April 21st, 2008, and while on the run in this case, the defendant carjacked a couple that had just been engaged to be married."
A Bucks county jury convicted Cash of raping the woman while he held the male victim at gunpoint, then executing the man, before taking the woman to a hotel where she was attacked again before she escaped.
