Philadelphia Is Among Worst Cities In America For Spring Allergies
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - For the past nine years, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America has released a list of the 100 worst cities for allergies in the United States, and Philadelphia is near the top of the list.
Well, the days of ice and snow are over but now we're confronted with itchy watery eyes and daily sneezing.
"This time of year is particularly bad," Dr. Trisha Acri, assistant professor of Family Community Medicine at Temple University Hospital says. "Pollen counts tend to be higher this time of the year...that tends to make allergies worse."
She's not surprised that Philadelphia is number 14 on the list of top 100 most challenging cities to live with spring allergies.
"The trees that are indigenous to this part of the country tend to have high pollen counts and the moist air."
Dr. Acri advises those who know they have spring allergies not to wait until the symptoms get really bad before they treat them.
But all in all, she says he would rather be in Philly in the Spring, "I'd rather have allergies than snow, I think."
