Winter Weather Causing Flight Delays, Cancellations At Philadelphia International Airport
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia International Airport is warning travelers to check their flight status for delays and cancellations as winter weather is taking over the region Monday. Airport officials say, of all of the days in the Thanksgiving holiday travel week, this is the least busy, and that's a good thing given a number of factors, including the weather.
The Federal Aviation Administration reports arriving flight delays are averaging 55 minutes.
Travelers should check their flight status with their airline and keep an eye on the weather throughout the day.
There have been delays and cancellations already because of a low ceiling. Nearly three dozen flights have been canceled and 150 have experienced delays.
Both departures and arrivals have been affected.
"Today we're expecting about 90,000 total passengers, that's both arriving and departing. This is actually one of our least busiest days of our travel period. Our busiest day was yesterday," airport spokeswoman Diane Gerace said.
Winter weather is also affecting air travel in New Jersey and New York. Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and JFK International Airport are also warning travelers of potential delays and cancellations from the winter weather.
