Philadelphia HS Students Learning Leadership Skills In DC
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Some Philadelphia high school students are in the nation's capital this week, learning about leadership.
"I want to be an ophthalmologist," says 16-year-old Naz'hae Singleton, a senior at the Charter High School for Architecture and Design. She's one of five Philadelphia high school students chosen for a leadership summit this week in Washington, DC.
"I started a peer tutoring internship at my school. And it's actually been nominated for one of the best things that my school has had so far."
The students are joining 200 others from across the nation in learning civic and business leadership skills at the Bank of America-sponsored event.
Naz'hae says leadership is a lot more than telling others what to do. "Teamwork, basically. I know that plays a big role in being a leader."
After the weeklong summit, the five students will finish a two-month internship at the Philadelphia Youth Network.
