Philadelphia Hosts Model G20 Student Summit

By John Ostapkovich

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, today, hosts its Model G20 Student Summit, where hundreds of area high schoolers walk in grown up shoes.

Like the Model United Nations that the Council runs for middle schoolers, the G20 project is a way of creating cultural literacy in a global environment, according to Dana Devon, the Council's VP for education. Students from about 80 schools in this region, and more by video-link from Pittsburgh, the UK and Slovenia, will address the issues of youth unemployment and food security that the actual G20 is also facing.

"They're not just thinking about the economic consequences of any particular policy, but also the social, the political, the technological, the environmental, and our students are pretty adept at doing that."

Devon says students attack problems as representatives of 19 nations and the European Union.
