Philadelphia Home Health Care Director Is Passionate About Achieving Excellence

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics at-home care is predicted to increase 48 percent by 2022. Megan Miller is a director at BAYADA Home Health Care, and attributes a mix of on-the-job experience and formal education to her success in the nursing field. BAYADA provides private nursing, therapy, home health aides, medical social workers and other professionals in the health care services. The BAYADA staff is available with 24-hour clinical support.

Can you describe your duties as a health care administrator?

"I am the director of a private home health aide and adult nursing office for BAYADA Home Health Care. I am responsible for the fiscal growth and development of these business lines. My job is to ensure that our clients are receiving home health care services with the highest professional, ethical, and safety standards, and that our employees are recognized and rewarded for meeting or exceeding our standards of excellence. A good internal team is the key to making every day a success."

How has your education prepared you for a career in health care administration?

"I feel that my educational background, as well as my varied work experience in health care, have helped me evolve into the director that I am today.  My social work experience and education help me in my day-to-day work: managing, leading, and working side-by-side with the office staff; coaching field staff; and troubleshooting with clients and their families. There are many different social work qualities used and adjusted with each group of people who you come in contact with. I feel proud of my educational background and how I use it every day."

Do you have any advice for someone pursuing a career in this field?

"If you have a genuine passion towards caring for people and helping individuals maintain their lives in the comfort of their homes, home health care may be an area for you to explore. It is challenging, rewarding, and satisfying to know that we can play a significant part in someone's life in even the smallest way."
