Philadelphia Gets A Slice Of The 'Best Pizza' Pie
By Steve Tawa
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia can pound the table in getting a top five mention as one of America's top cities for pizza. Travel and Leisure Magazine says we're #4 in a reader's poll of the 20 best cities for pizza in America - behind Chicago, Providence and New York.
Even though many view ballet dancers as tutu thin, the members of the Pennsylvania Ballet can weigh in on the saucy rating, including their favorite pizza joints as well as the next group you happen by.
So after their rehearsal, we asked the company dancers some of their views.
"Sounds pretty accurate to me. I used to live in New York, and I miss my old pizza place, but we always go to Zio's and get the white pizza. It's just as good, if you ask me."
"I like a lot of tomato sauce."
"I'm not sure if they're open right now, but Lorenzo's."
"Rustica is the best in Philadelphia, in Northern Liberties."
"Dock Street Pizza in West Philadelphia. It's all made in a wood fire with a super thin crust and they use really great ingredients.'
Travel and Leisure cites as examples Pizza Brain in Fishtown and Nomad Pizza, near South Street.
