Philadelphia Flower Show Takes On A British Theme This Year
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The largest indoor flower show in the country takes place next month at Philadelphia's convention center complex.
The show theme this year is "Brilliant" -- a tribute to Great Britain.
Organizers says a 38-foot-high Big Ben will be the centerpiece of the show.
"It's going to come to life -- it's going to be digitally enhanced, completely surrounded in thousands of roses. And with sound, light, and music, it's going to be a feast for the senses," says Sam Lemheney (below right), a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, which puts on the annual show.
"A lot of people think about the traditional English gardens," he tells KYW Newsradio. "They will be at the show. But we really pushed our exhibitors to go a little bit more contemporary."
You will also be able to get tickets for afternoon tea. Even Queen Elizabeth will be helping out with the promotion! Well... a lookalike actually, who will be promoting the show in various locations around the Delaware Valley.
"Even on your commute on the train you may find the queen inviting you to the flower show," Lemheney says.
The Philadelphia Flower Show runs two full weekends this year, March 2nd to March 10th. More information is at theflowershow.com.
