Philadelphia Fails To Make List Of Trendy Spots For Millennials

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A news website has released a survey ranking the top 35 cities for millennials -- and Philadelphia isn't on it.
The website Vocativ bills itself as a global news site for the Digital Generation. In a recent index on the best cities for millennials, it considered factors like public transportation, low rent, coffee shops, music venues, even the price of a pint of beer.
Portland, Nashville and Austin all made the list, but Philadelphia did not. But a number of millennials living in the city believe it should have.
"I don't think you can really categorize everyone into one bucket," said Ally. "I think if you're into the hipster scene, the flannel scene, alt-rock, there are things for you here. And even the coffee shops, that same theme is consistent."
Lana, who lives in the Northeast, says Philadelphia is a great city, depending on what you're looking for and where.
"Certain parts of the city, like Northern Liberties, it's a little pricier on the rent side of things," she says. "However, they do have a lot of coffee shops, a lot of social activities, whereas if you get in the chichi parts of town, it's not really conducive for millennials."
She says Philadelphia is very segmented, and there are reasonable rents even in those tony neighborhoods, especially if you take in a roommate.
